“Is this Julie? Julie Parkson?”
Julie had been working in the studio all day and almost had to think for a minute….”This is Julie, yes. Who is this?”
“it Detective Nelson. Detective Corey Nelson.”
Jule’s heart sank. She had been doing some great interviews and working on projects to fill her mind and heart the last couple of months. trying to detach from the slow and steady ache that was the knowledge in the back of her mind that Jesse was still gone and her murderer still at large and it would probably never be proven that…
“Julie, did you hear me? Did you hear anything I said?”
“Julie I need you to come down to the station. We have some….we have some definitive information on your case.”
“My case….my…..Jesse? You have proof? You know who did it?”
(interior of jule’s therpist’s office, january 2005)
“I would like to make a suggestion, Jules. Are you in a good place to hear a suggestion?’
“what? what is your suggestion, Doc? Suggest away…”
hesitant to even make the suggestion, but knowing that it was the best thing for her patient’s mental state even though she knew some details about…
“Jules, I think you need to either start the process of forgiving Abby for the loss of your….baby or start contact again with small steps, steps that we can manage together. I think this in between is worse for your….
“I want to forgive her…she was just…she was just…such a part of my life and when we first met and we met and then jes…..and I can’t lose anything…another thing…anything else with this…in this….I need to forgive her.”
Doctor mann felt the tension in the pit of her stomach again. the same pit as when she…
“I just…I need it to be….maybe I can forgive her without actually trying to talk to her or be in the same….
“Yes, Jules, I think we can work together on steps to free you from the….”
“but I don’t…I can’t….I don’t want to try to picture what else could have….I mean…maybe I would have lost the baby anyway…..you know, based upon the age when we….and you know that jack was…well, how can we be sure….”
“jules, if you’re willing I do think we need to put you under again to flesh out the details of….”
this was like a lightning strike in Jules’ head. she felt herself flush and her migraine trails started again and she….she starts writing Doctor Mann’s check, leaves it on the table and is out of there in a flash
“sorry that’s all the time we have”, over her shoulder as she leaves…
Doctor Mann sits there stunned, smiling at her most challenging patient using her line. she couldn’t help but care more about Jules as a patient….she has lost so much important to her.
(detective Nelson’s office at the station, later that night)
“hey Nelson, are you staying at the office or do you want to meet me and boys for a couple of beers tonight?”
“I have some paperwork to finish up and….”
“boring. I know you have been a b it isolated since the break-up but you can’t spend every night at the office”
“well, I don’t sleep over. I have just be really bust with this cold case”
“you know the chief doesn’t want us digging into that one too much.”
yeah Nelson mutters under his breath as the guys leave the station. He owed this poor woman the truth and he was going to figure out how to get her there herself.
(Jules’s studio that same night)
Jules doesn’t know how ling she’s been sitting at her desk but her right foot’s asleep. she is still holding her cellphone from talking to the detective and is just….stunned….when it rings she jumps and hits her elbow on the side of the desk….
“Jules, Jules, Julie.”
Jack sounds frantic.
“Did you talk to the Detective?”
it’s like Jules forgot how to use her own mouth and that the words she is looking for can’t make their way from her brain into her mouth and out….
“I am on my way. stay right there.”
